Tour of Kwa-Zulu Natal and Swaziland: 6 – 10 May, 2016 – Indaba Tourism Show, ICC Durban

I started the tour off by attending the Indaba Tourism Show in Durban, we stayed out at Chaka’s Cove in Chaka’s Rock, a beautiful destination on the 1st floor overlooking the sea pool and the beach. My travel companion is a DMC agent out from the USA, and we travelled daily from here to the ICC in Durban.

We visited the Beverley Hills in Umhlanga at the invitation of the general manager John de Canha – and this location is every bit as good as it has ever been.

My travel companion has a very keen interest in snakes, and we spent a couple of hours with Neville Wolmarans at the Ndondolo Snake Park in Ballito. This venue is literally on the edge of the sugar cane fields and here you met people with a genuine interest in reptiles – their knowledge of the region and the habitat and their concern for the survival of reptiles is paramount, and this raises the question of the ante-venom for victims of snake bites and their treatment. There is also a fraternity dedicated to removing unwanted snakes and returning them to habitats where they do not pose a danger or threat to humans, this is central to their continued existence.

It is interesting to note that most snake-bite victims are the very handlers themselves.
