The city that did not tolerate division and could not resist rejuvenation and reinvention

Share in the hustle and bustle of township life whilst we delve deeper into the psyche of our past. We discuss the revolutionary history visiting the sites that played a pivotal role.  Freedom Square with its vibrant market, the Soweto Hotel and the very small yet fascinating museum telling the story of the launching of the Freedom Charter.

Regina Mundi Church was a place of sanctuary during the youth uprisings in 1976.  When you enter this humble Catholic church, it is with the knowledge that 5000 youngsters sought refuge within the walls from the bullets of the police.  The political rallies held here faintly echo through the aisles and yet the atmosphere is one of peace.

The June 16 Memorial Acre focuses on the routes used by the students and complements the narrative of the Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum.

In the mix is our revolutionary history as it unfolded within the boundaries of this unique Township.

Freedom Square with the busy and colourful market where fresh fruits and vegetables can be bought at very low prices.

The Hector Pieterson Museum visually depicts the Youth Uprising of the 16th of June 1976, which was the beginning of the end of apartheid.

Visit the De Wildt Cheetah project and see how Ann van Dyk in conjunction with the South African National Parks, have managed to save the Cheetah from extinction and remove them from the endangered list….

An educational tour conducted in an open vehicle, you get to see the animals at close quarters.

Because of the success of their programme, this has now been extended to include the Wild Dogs and the Brown Hyena. Both species are also in need of revival. Collecting information of how they live is very important if we are to make a difference to their survival. This includes assisting their breeding and reintroducing them back into their natural habitat.
